Shelter House is our September Community Partner

Shelter House provides emergency housing for those who need it, and is in the process of building a second Housing First facility to provide permanent housing for chronically homeless individuals.

Shelter House also offers eviction- prevention and utility assistance, employment support, resume writing, job training and interview skills, etc. Educational and mental health help are among other offerings.

The Inside Out Reentry Community is our July Community Partner

Inside Out’s mission is to support people involved in the criminal legal system and to educate the public to promote healing, restore relationships, and reduce recidivism. Inside Out works with individuals incarcerated throughout Iowa and provides additional assistance to those returning to Johnson County after release, operating a drop-in Resource Center and offering weekly meetings and a mentoring program.

Welcome Nic Kaplan, UUS’s New Director of Lifespan Religious Education

We are delighted to announce that UUS has hired Nic Kaplan to be our new Director of Lifespan Religious Education! They come to us from Muncie, Indiana where they are the Coordinator of Youth Programming at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Muncie. Offer Your Heart, Mind, and Spirit for our Summer Lay-Led Services

Every summer members of the congregation help the Worship Associates plan and deliver a series of lay-led services. The 2022 Summer service theme is Compassion. Would you be interested in offering a sermon sharing any experiences or understanding of compassion in your own life and learning? Submit a proposal form by the end of April! Community Purchase for Climate Action

The quickest, easiest, and cheapest way to start playing a part in slowing climate change is making sure the light and water in your home is as energy efficient as possible. UUS and the Green Sanctuary Team are partnering with the Johnson Clean Energy District (JCED) to purchase LED bulbs and low-flow showerheads for members and friends of the congregation.
